Fort Branch man arrested for OWI after traffic stop. (7/6/14).
On July 6, 2014 at approximately 12:30 a.m. Deputy John Fischer was traveling eastbound on State Road 168 when he observed a Black 2002 Chevy Silverado pulling off the side of the road. As Deputy Fischer began to follow the vehicle it turned on it’s hazard lights. Deputy Fischer initiated his emergency lights and went to check on the welfare of the driver. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Fischer identified the driver as James D. Hooks, age 20 of Fort Branch, Indiana. While speaking with Mr. Hooks Deputy Fischer smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and from person.
Deputy Fischer administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests, and at the end of those tests Mr. Hooks was transported to the Gibson General Hospital for a chemical test. Upon receiving the results of the test Mr. Hooks was transported to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI,) Minor Consumption, and Driving While Suspended Prior. Mr. Hooks was also given a traffic citation for driving with an expired license plate. He remains in custody on a $1300 bond.
