7/5/14, press release: Welfare Check

On July 5, 2014 at approximately 2301 hours Burlington Police responded to the report of a male who had jumped off a ferry into Lake Champlain. The incident occurred close to shore. The subject was described as a white male, in his late twenties or early thirties, approximately 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing a light colored shirt. Police received multiple reports that the male had made it to land and ran from the area on foot. The Burlington Police Department, Burlington Fire Department, and US Coast Guard all responded to the incident. The Coast Guard checked the shoreline. However, authorities were unable to locate the subject and check his welfare. Anyone with information regarding the matter is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2700. The Burlington Police would like to remind the public of the dangers of such behavior and the importance of water safety.
