Owensville man arrested for striking Deputy who was investigating a domestic disturbance.

On July 4, 2014, at 6:50 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch sent officers to the area of West Warrick Street in Owensville, Indiana to investigate a possible Domestic Disturbance. Upon arriving Deputy U.B. Smith began to speak to people in the area, and one of those individuals advised that there was a man in the mobile home park that was wearing camouflage pants who was being belligerent and fighting with people. After looking through the mobile home park Deputy Smith was able to locate an individual matching that description at 500 West Warrick Street. While attempting to speak to people at this residence the man in camouflage pants became verbally disruptive. Deputy U.B. Smith tried to calm the situation, but the man in camouflage pants attempted to provoke a fight with the officer. Ultimately when a back up officer arrived on scene John D. Vaught II, the man in the camouflage pants struck Deputy Smith. At that point Mr. Vaught was placed under arrest for Felony Battery, and placed in a police officers car. Once officers on scene were able to complete their investigation it was determined that Mr. Vaught had been in a physical confrontation with another person in the mobile home park, and the commotion of that incident is what caused officers to be called to the scene.

Mr. Vaught transported to the Gibson General Emergency Room to be medically cleared before he was taken to the Gibson County Jail. Mr. Vaught was charged with:

Battery (Felony)
Intimidation of Police Officer (Felony)
Intimidation (Misdemeanor)

He remains in custody on a $2,250 bond.
