Armed Robbery-Suspects in Custody
On 07/02/2014 at 12:39 pm officers from The Janesville Police Department responded to the area of Balmoral Dr and Glenbarr Dr for an unknown problem. A male called 911 and an argument could be overheard. While officers were in route to the call information was developed that this was a robbery in progress. One of the suspects was armed with a knife. The victim finally reported to the emergency dispatcher that five people attacked him and took his money.
Several officers and detectives responded into the area. Officers responded to information as it came in and eventually ended up at a residence in the 4000 block of Markham Dr. Five people were detained at the residence in question. The investigation showed that 3 juvenile males and 2 adult males were involved in a drug transaction with the victims. There was a dispute over the transaction and eventually a robbery where $1100.00 in U.S. Currency, a cell phone and a watch were taken. One of the suspects was armed with a knife during the incident.
All five suspects were charged with party to a crime of robbery. All five suspects are currently in custody. The detective bureau will be conducting follow up on the incident and evaluating additional evidence that has been collected.
