Corona Fire/Police seek assistance with Arson Investigation

On May 17, 2014, at about 1:59 am, the Corona Police Department responded to 1897 California Ave #102, for an audible commercial alarm. Upon arrival, officers observed an office building partially engulfed in flames.

Officers called for fire personnel to respond. The Corona Fire Department was able to effectively extinguish the fire that damaged the front lobby of the office building and a firefighter sustained injuries while fighting the fire.

Arson investigators from both the Corona Police and Fire Department assessed and searched for evidence of possible arson. Investigators located surveillance footage that captured an unknown suspect deliberately breaking into the business. The suspect is then seen on camera setting the office on fire using an incendiary device fueled by a flammable liquid.

The suspect captured in the footage had his face covered to hide his identity. Arson investigators are releasing the video footage in an effort someone in the community may have information that will help investigators identify the suspect responsible for the fire.

If you have any information about this investigation please contact Det. Healy at (951) 279-3635 or Fire Investigator Diedre Locati at (951) 279-3762.
