Effective, July 1, 2014, NJ fines increased for texting/using a cell phone while driving.
As of July 1, 2014, NJ has increased the fines associated with using a cell phone and/or texting while driving a motor vehicle. The fines were previously $100.00 for the 1st offense. The change in law increases the fine between $200.00 - $400.00 for the 1st offense, $400.00 - $600.00 for the 2nd offense and $600.00 - $800.00 for the 3rd or subsequent offenses.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America's roadways. In 2012 alone, 3,328 were killed in distracted driving crashes. Please be caution while driving and remember "arrive alive, don’t text and drive”!
