(DeKalb County, IN)-The Indiana State Police investigated a single vehicle crash that occurred this morning just outside of Hamilton that resulted in injury to both of its occupants.
According to Trooper David Poe, at approximately 9:10 a.m. a 2011 Freightliner box truck driven by 51 year old Michael W. Hephner of Angola, was traveling eastbound on County Road 00 N in the area of County Road 51.
Hephner purportedly took his eyes off the road for just a moment and as such, his truck began to leave the south side of the roadway. The truck continued into a ditch where it struck two trees before stopping back on the roadway.
Hephner was transported by Steuben County EMS to Cameron Hospital in Angola and his passenger, 64 year old Howard T. Beekman of Coldwater, Michigan was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center by Samaritan. Their conditions are not known at this time. Both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash which may have prevented more serious injuries.
Poe was assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff Department, Ashley Police Department, Steuben County EMS, Samaritan, Hamilton Fire Department, Ashley Fire Department and Bill’s Professional Towing.
