Crash on I-64 injures Trooper and Louisville, KY Couple
Posey County – This afternoon at approximately 4:10, Indiana State Police responded to a serious crash on I-64 eastbound at the 12 ½ mile-marker involving a trooper and a Louisville, KY, couple.
Preliminary investigation revealed Trooper Wes Alexander, 29, was driving his 2010 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car westbound I-64 near the 12 ½ mile-marker with his emergency lights activated. For unknown reasons his vehicle left the roadway on the south side, crossed the median and entered the eastbound lane striking a 2001 Mercury Sable driven by Sherri Jones, 63, of Louisville. After impact, both vehicles came to a final rest off the roadway on the south side of I-64. Sherri Jones was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital where she is currently being treated for serious injuries. Her husband, John Jones, 64, was transported by ambulance to Deaconess Hospital where he is also being treated for serious injuries. Trooper Alexander is currently being treated for a head injury at Deaconess Hospital. His injury is non-life threatening.
The eastbound lanes of I-64 at the Poseyville exit were closed for approximately four-hours while troopers investigated the crash.
The investigation continues and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
