On June 29, 2014, at 10:58am, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Police and Fire Units responded to the area of Central Expressway and San Bernardino Way on a report of a collision involving a single motor vehicle. The collision had been witnessed by an on duty Public Safety officer who observed the vehicle as it left the roadway at the dead end of West Arques and traveled through the air before landing on the roadway approximately 25 feet below.

The female driver and solo occupant received major injuries as a result of the collision and required extrication from the vehicle by firefighters at the scene. Once freed from the wreckage she was transported from the scene by ambulance to Stanford Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.

The cause of this collision is currently under investigation by the Sunnyvale DPS Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Any witnesses to the traffic collision are requested to contact MAIT Investigator Rudy Ramirez (408) 730-7109.
