Tipton County Sheriff’s Deputy Dies in Single Vehicle Crash

Tipton County – Last night at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on Tipton County Road 300 West near County Road 300 South, in which a two and a half year veteran of the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department was fatally injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Josh Tarrh revealed that Tipton County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob D. Calvin, 31, Kempton, IN, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala police car, at a high rate of speed, northbound on Tipton County Road 300 West near County Road 300 South. For an undetermined reason, the Impala traveled off of the eastside of the road, rolled multiple times, ejecting Deputy Calvin. At the time of his crash, Deputy Calvin was responding, with emergency lights and siren activated, to a personal injury crash on State Road 28 and Tipton County Road 500 West.

Deputy Calvin was transported by ambulance to Indiana University Tipton Hospital. Unfortunately he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

This crash is still under investigation. Deputy Calvin was on duty at the time of the crash.

A photo of Deputy Calvin is attached.
