Passenger Airlifted After Crash
Vigo County—This evening at 4:30, Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 40 just west of Main Street in Seelyville. The crash injured two motorists with one airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by 19-year-old Michael L. Riddle of Avon, IN., was eastbound on US 40 and attempted to make a left turn into a local banking facility. Upon making his left turn, Riddle turned into the path of a westbound 2001 Toyota Camry, driven by 87-year-old Laurette Bellamy of Bloomington, IN. The Bellamy vehicle then struck the passenger side of the Riddle vehicle.
Michael Riddle was not injured. Laurette Bellamy was transported to Union Hospital in Terre Haute with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the Bellamy vehicle, 81-year-old Marian Krajewska of Bloomington, IN., was airlifted from the scene to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for what is believed to be serious internal injuries.
Drugs and/or alcohol appear to not be a factor in the crash and no citations were issued.
The crash was investigated by ISP Troopers Brian Thomas and Timothy Henning. Assisting were Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Trans Care EMS, Seelyville-Lost Creek Fire/Rescue, and IU Health air ambulance.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
