LOCK, TAKE, HIDE

Thefts from autos are on the rise, not only in Marietta, but throughout the region. One trend the police department has noticed is the increase in “door flippers”. Door flippers are petty criminals looking for targets of opportunity in business districts and residential neighborhoods. They walk through parking lots and flip the door handles of cars to see if the vehicle has been left unlocked. When they find an unlocked vehicle, they enter and steal whatever valuables they can find. Sometimes they walk along and look in vehicles and when they see valuables inside, such as laptops, GPS systems, cameras, cell phones, etc. they try the doors on just those vehicles to see if they can make a quick score.

Deterring flippers is very easy, but also easy to overlook. Please remember the simple formula of LOCK, TAKE and HIDE.

LOCK- Make sure you remember to always lock your doors
TAKE- Take your keys with you and don’t leave them in the vehicle
HIDE- Hide your valuables completely out of sight.

Making lock, take and hide a habit is a good way to prevent loss and inconvenience.
