6/25/14, press release : Lewd and Lascivious

On June 25, 2014 at approximately 2259 hours Burlington police officers responded to the Church Street block between Main Street and College Street for a man engaging in lewd & lascivious behavior.

Upon police arrival, witnesses identified the suspect sitting on a Church Street bench as Michael Norton and reported he was observed masturbating with his penis exposed.

At the time Norton had two sets of Conditions of Release which were issued by the Honorable Samuel Hoar, on June 9th, 2014 and Michael S. Kupersmith on June 20th, 2014, where Norton was ordered to stay off of Church Street.

In the month of June, 2014, Norton has been criminally charged with Violation of Conditions of Release x4, criminally charged with Unlawful Trespass, Disorderly Conduct and Lewd & Lascivious Conduct. On June 24th, 2014 Norton was criminally charged with VCR and Lewd & Lascivious conduct by South Burlington Police for masturbating in front of the University Mall. On June 25, 2014 the Honorable Brian Grearson ordered an additional set of Conditions of Release to Norton banning him from the University Mall and for staying 100 feet away from all minors under the age of 18.

6/26/2014 UPDATE:
Follow up on the 14BU16597 press release: On June 26th Michael Norton was arraigned in Vermont Superior Court on the above-mentioned charges and released on conditions. At 1358 hours, Burlington Police Officers located Norton back on the Church Street Marketplace where he was subsequently arrested for violating his Conditions of Release. During today’s encounter and since having been released back on conditions, Norton was also charged with Unlawful Trespass for entering Rite Aid when an active trespass notice existed, and Disorderly Conduct (2 counts) for causing a disturbance inside City Market whereas he threw a bottle of orange juice at the feet of an employee, and causing a public inconvenience on Cherry St and Church St when police attempted to make contact with him.

Norton was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center.
