Man's Best Friend Retire from Sheriff's Office

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Three of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office four-legged crime fighters have decided to hang up their collars. On Tuesday, Sheriff Adrian Garcia presented K9s Tamara (a 3 year veteran), Rex (7 years) and Fozzie (3 years) with their retirement credentials during June’s monthly retirement ceremony at the agency’s 1200 Baker Street Headquarters.

Throughout their respective careers, K9s Tamara, Rex and Fozzie boasted impressive records of success. Combined the three are responsible for the seizure of over 71 kilograms of cocaine, 6,000 pounds of marijuana, 1,300 grams of methamphetamine, 298 hydro-marijuana plants, 1 firearm and $7,000.00 of US currency. They’ve been involved with over 40 area searches, 25 building searches, 84 explosives searches, and 103 suspect captures.

The regularly occurring retirement ceremony is an opportunity for the Sheriff and his command staff to personally thank retiring personnel for their years of service and highlight their individual accomplishments. The Sheriff presents all retirees with a letter commending their years in service, official retirement credentials and a Sheriff’s Office challenge coin representing the challenges they faced and endured during their service to the agency and the citizens of Harris County.

No exceptions were made as three of the HCSO’s K9 Deputies were sent into their golden years of retirement.

Also retiring with the K9 Deputies were two legged lawmen from the Sheriff’s Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Commands, Deputy J. Robinson (22 years) and Deputy G. Worley (34 years).
