Suspect in manhunt, Joseph Mills, captured Tuesday evening in Burke County; currently confined in McDowell jail
A day-long manhunt ended Tuesday evening, when officers located 24-year-old Joseph Gentry Mills, of South Sunny Grove Road in Nebo, in Burke County.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., McDowell County sheriff’s deputies received confirmation that Mills was arrested on a greenway in Morganton by Morganton Department of Public Safety officers.
McDowell deputies, and dozens of other emergency officials, searched the Tatertown Loop area of Nebo all day Tuesday after Mills ran from authorities trying to serve him with two outstanding warrants for felony probation violations.
Mills fled in his vehicle from Deputy Randy Branton at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, wrecked the car after a brief pursuit and ran into the woods.
Local authorities received information late in the day Tuesday that Mills had possibly left the Nebo area by vehicle and was in Burke County.
He is currently in the McDowell County jail, charged with two felony probation violations, felony fleeing to elude arrest, misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger.
