Advisory

As a result of the current weather event in West Monroe multiple roads are closed due to high water; please find an alternate route.

As a result of the current weather event in West Monroe, the following roadways have been closed as a result of high water;

1.) Cypress Street from Claiborne Ave. to Bridge St.
All four lanes.
2.) Claiborne Ave. @ Travis St.
3.) McMillan Rd. @ Bell Ln.
4.) Downing Pines @ Cypress St.
5.) North 7th St. @ Lincoln Rd.
6.) Parkwest Dr.
7.) Parkwood Dr. between Glenwood & Tupelo Dr.
8.) South 1st St @ Trenton St., Rail Road Bridge Underpass

Fortunately our department has only worked one, single vehicle accident as a result of this weather situation, however multiple vehicles have stalled due to motorists driving into water covered roadways causing additional traffic congestion.

Most flood-related deaths and injuries could be avoided if people who come upon areas covered with water followed this simple advice: Turn Around Don't Drown.

Most people underestimate the incredible power of water. Six inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes only two feet of rushing water to carry away most vehicles. This includes pickups and SUVs.
We would like to remind you, If you come to an area that is covered with water, you will not know the depth of the water or the condition of the ground under the water. This is especially true at night, when your vision is more limited, Turn Around Don't Drown.

West Monroe Police would advise drivers not to drive on roadways until this weather event passes.
