The Compton Station Special Assignment Team and the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) recently conducted a Shoulder Tap operation within Compton Sheriff’s Station jurisdiction. 

During the operation, a minor decoy contacted a several adult individuals at local licensed establishments and asked each of them to purchase alcohol for him/her.  Of the individuals contacted, two accepted the request by purchasing alcohol and furnishing it to the minor decoy outside of the location.

The two individuals who furnished the alcohol to the minor decoy were cited for misdemeanor section 25658(a) B&P. 

The Minor Decoy operation has been recognized as an excellent method to attack the problems associated with the unlawful purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages by underage minors. The Shoulder Tap operation targets adults who furnish alcoholic beverages to underage minors.

The goal of the operation is to reduce underage consumption of, and access to, alcohol and to deter adults from furnishing alcoholic beverages to underage minors.  Additionally, the operation is expected to raise public awareness about underage drinking.

This project is part of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy / Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Anyone with questions about the program can contact Sergeant Danny Martinez of the Compton Sheriff’s Station at (310) 605-6564.
