High Rate of Speed in Construction Zone Lands Driver in Jail

Putnam County—This morning at 11:45, Indiana State Police Region III Dispatch Center notified Putnamville troopers working along Interstate 70, of a car traveling westbound on I-70 at a high rate of speed and reckless. The dispatch center had received numerous telephone calls complaining about the red 2011 Chevrolet Camero callers felt was traveling around 100 miles-per-hour.

Trooper Mike Wood noticed the vehicle westbound near the 39mm at 100 mph, passing without using turn signals, and continuing at a high rate of speed through two sets of flashing 45mph construction zone signs. Wood was able to stop the vehicle near the 28mm in Clay County.

The driver was identified as Brandon G. Barngrover, age 29, of Wilkinson, IN. (Hancock County). Barngrover was taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Jail on Reckless Driving charges. Barngrover’s Camero was impounded. Barngrover was reportedly late for work in Sullivan County Indiana.

Assisting was ISP Master Trooper Kent Winstead.

The Indiana State Police is committed to reducing crashes and saving lives through vigorous enforcement and zero tolerance for aggressive and dangerous driving.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
