On Friday June 20th, the Walnut Creek Police Department (WCPD) in conjunction with the Center for Human Development (CHD) hosted a sobriety checkpoint on Lawrence Way in Walnut Creek from 9:00pm until 2:00am.
Officers from WCPD, San Ramon PD and Richmond PD had 1002 cars travel through the checkpoint. Officers conducted sobriety tests on a total of fifteen drivers. Five adults were arrested for DUI, five adults were cited for being unlicensed and one adult was cited for driving on a suspended license.
One vehicle drove through the checkpoint, fleeing onto Northbound 680. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were advised and the vehicle was located a short time later, where it had crashed on Highway 680 in Pleasant Hill. The driver fled the scene and the investigation continues.
WCPD would like to thank the many men and women who were contacted at the checkpoint and offered their encouragement on our efforts to keep the streets safe from impaired drivers.
