Press Release: Suspect Sought in Kidnapping and Attempted Homicide
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – On Thursday June 19th, 2014 at approximately 9:39 p.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) personnel responded to the report of a stabbing that occurred on the 500 block of N. Britton Ave. Officers located a 33 year old female victim with stab wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for her injuries. At the same time, officers learned an 8 year old child had been abducted from the residence. It was determined the suspect was the father of the child and estranged boyfriend of the stabbing victim. The suspect made threats of suicide and harm to the child.
DPS initiated the Santa Clara County Abduction protocol and an Amber Alert. During the activation additional information on the whereabouts of the child was obtained. DPS officers, in communication with the suspect’s family, were able to have the child brought to our headquarters safely. The child was later reunited with her mother. The mother has since been released from the hospital.
Sunnyvale detectives continue to investigate the case and search for the suspect. The suspect is Jose Luis Valencia (6/9/1970). Mr. Valencia should be considered armed and dangerous based upon his threats and actions in this incident. A warrant for his arrest has been issued.
