City of Marietta Continues Commemoration of 150th Anniversary of Civil War
MARIETTA – The City of Marietta will be hosting signature events throughout the month of June to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War. During the “Sherman at the Gates Weekend” on June 20-22 and the “150th Anniversary of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain Weekend” on June 27-29, citizens will be able to come to the Square to participate in living history, encampments, entertainment, and guided tours of the Civil War hospital locations.
As part of the Sherman at the Gates Weekend, Union and Confederate soldiers camped on the Square will have musket firing demonstrations and honor salutes from June 20-29 (no demonstrations on Monday, June 23) at 12:30pm, 2:30pm, and 5:30pm. At 8pm, you can hear “The Story of Marietta, Georgia” in real-time and watch the firing of an honor guard.
