Nurse from Columbia City Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges
(Columbia City, IN)- The Indiana State Police arrested a Columbia City woman today as a result of a two month long investigation prompted by allegations of misconduct and theft by her employer, Parkview Whitley Hospital.
An investigation conducted by Trooper Andrew Mills revealed that on numerous instances between November 13, 2013 and March 30, 2014, 40 year old Britte E. Smith allegedly accessed the hospital’s Pyxis Machine, which is used to dispense or deliver drugs or controlled substances.
It is alleged that Smith accessed the Pyxis Machines in both the Medical Surgery and Constant Care Units of the hospital for the controlled substance Hydromorphone HCL “for purposes other than patient care”. Smith was processed into the Whitley County Jail on the following charges:
• Interference with Medical Services, Class C Felony
• Theft, Class D Felony
• Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Class D Felony
Smith was released on a $10,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in the Whitley County Circuit Court on Monday, June 23rd at 1:30 p.m.
