Zero Tolerance against illegal fireworks activity in the City of Gardena

As the 4th of July approaches, there is usually a spike in the amount of fireworks discharged in our city. The Gardena Police Department would like to remind you that only Safe and Sane type fireworks are legal within the City of Gardena. Though these are legal to be sold from 10:00 am on June 28 to 10:00 pm on July 4th, they can only be discharged on July 4th between the hours of 12:00 pm and 10:00 pm.

All other types of fireworks are illegal in the City of Gardena at all times.

Officers will be taking a ZERO TOLERANCE approach to fireworks enforcement. This includes illegal fireworks, as well as Safe and Sane fireworks that are discharged outside of authorized hours. Fines can be up to $1000.00 with up to a year in jail. These fines and jail time can be increased based on the type and amount of illegal fireworks a suspect is found with. Suspects will be cited/arrested and all illegal fireworks will be seized and held for destruction by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

As always, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. If illegal fireworks of any type are being discharged in your area, please call our non-emergency number at (310) 323-7911. If immediate emergency assistance is needed, please dial 911.
