TWO CAR HEAD-ON CRASH, US-12 HWY and Suszek Rd, Porter Twp.

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr reports his office is investigating a two car crash which occurred this morning, 06-18-2014 at approx. 0527 Hours. The crash occurred on US-12 near Suszek Road in Porter Township, Cass County, Michigan.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found that two vehicles had struck each other in the west bound lane of traffic and came to rest on the north side of the road. Airbags had deployed in both vehicles and seatbelts were used by both drivers. The first driver was identified as Becky A. Worth, 48 yrs old of White Pigeon, Michigan. Worth was west bound on US 12 when the crash occurred. The second driver was identified as Dwight J Ottman, 21yrs old of Cassopolis, Michgian. Ottman was eastbound on US 12 when the crash occurred. Both drivers were transported from the scene to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation and interviews shows that Ottman fell asleep and crossed completely over the center line, striking Worth's vehicle. The vehicle's then spun and came to rest on the north side of US 12 Hwy, between Suszek Road and Old 112.

Porter Fire and Ambulance service, along with Edwardsburg Ambulance service responded to the scene. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
