Motorcyclist Flees From State Police, Ends Up Behind Bars

Evansville: An Evansville resident who thought he could flee from State Police ends up behind bars tonight.

At about 5:23 this afternoon, First Sergeant Jason Allen observed a black, 2006 Yamaha motorcycle traveling 98 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone on State Road 57 at Green River Road. F/Sgt Allen attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the motorcycle which, in turn, accelerated and attempted to flee, exceeding speeds of 135 miles per hour. The pursuit continued to Oak Hill Road near Bergdolt Road where the motorcycle began driving through several yards, at which point the State Police terminated the pursuit. A license plate check indicated that the registered owner of the motorcycle, Jeffery Tyler Burch, 20, Evansville, lived three blocks from where the pursuit was terminated.

Officers from the Evansville Police Department and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrived at 4235 North Congress Avenue to assist the State Police in locating Burch. After attempts to get Burch to answer the door at the residence, Burch surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

Burch was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and will have an initial court appearance tomorrow morning.
