Share ideas for public improvements at Fourth District PIAC hearing Thursday

Want to suggest a project for next year’s capital improvement budget in the City of Kansas City, Missouri? You’re invited to attend the Public Improvements Advisory Committee’s Fourth District neighborhood hearing this Thursday, June 19 from 6-8 p.m. at the North-East Library, 6000 Wilson Road.

Many capital improvement projects are funded by the Public Improvements Advisory Committee or PIAC. These projects typically include flood control, storm drainage, street resurfacing, bridge repairs, traffic signals and street lights, tree trimming and planting, community centers, and improvements to parks, trails, ball fields and swimming pools.

Residents also may suggest a City project or improvement on KC Momentum, the City’s virtual town hall. Join the conversation at www.kcmomentum.org. Current topics include the following:

•               How can we create more connected neighborhoods?

•               How can the City best maintain our street and sewer system?

•               How can we create a more pedestrian-friendly atmosphere?

•               How do you use sidewalks and walkways?

•               Which facilities, monuments or fountains most need repairs?

Another way to suggest a project is by filling out a form. Visit www.kcmo.gov/piac for an online form, or call 816-513-2826 for a paper form. The deadline to submit a suggestion is Aug. 31, 2014.

PIAC comprises 13 members—two residents from each council district and a chairperson—who are appointed by the mayor and City Council. PIAC will use public input from several neighborhood and citywide hearings to make recommendations to the City Council regarding both the citywide and neighborhood portions of the Fiscal Year 2015-16 capital budget. Project funding comes from the one-cent sales tax for public improvements.

Visit www.kcmo.gov/piac for more information, including a complete schedule of all PIAC hearings

Any person with a disability who desires reasonable accommodation to attend the PIAC neighborhood hearings may contact the City’s 311 Call Center at 311 or 816-513-1313, or for TTY, 816-513-1889, or by email at [email protected].
