Auto Burglary Suspect Apprehended
On Friday June 13th at 1314 hrs a citizen called to report her vehicle had just been broken into while parked at 5959 Coronado Ln. The victim saw the subject about ten yards away carrying her purse and yelled at him to return it. The victim lost sight of the suspect as he was running away toward W. Las Positas Blvd. The subject had smashed the driver’s side window and stole the victim’s purse. The suspect was described as a black male adult in his 30’s with a shaved head, wearing a black t-shirt and black pants. The suspect was not located.
On Saturday June 14th at 0826 hrs officers were dispatched to an alarm call at Provident Bank 5934 Gibraltar Dr. As officers arrived near the alarm call they saw a black male adult carrying a purse. Officers attempted to contact the subject however, he fled from the officers. During the chase the suspect attempted to discard property he had in his possession belonging to the victim from the auto burglary on Friday. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect at the Four Points Sheraton hotel in the courtyard without incident.
During the investigation of this case officer’s located property, in the suspect’s possession, from a Fremont resident who had been the victim of an auto burglary in Fremont on February 19th, 2014. The suspect was identified as 40 year old Derrick Fields currently residing in Dublin. Fields was booked at Santa Rita Jail for 496 PC Possession of stolen property, 666 PC thefts with prior convictions, and 148 PC delaying or obstructing an officer.
