Recycle Don't Litter!!
Porter County-A driver decided to throw his empty beer bottles out of his vehicle onto the Toll Road shattering glass for over a fifteen mile stretch of road before being stopped.
Today, Friday, June 13th, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Indiana State Police Toll Road received numerous calls about someone in a red 2008 Dodge Charger going east bound near County Line Road (22 mile marker) throwing beer bottles out at passing cars and signs. They also reported that the Charger was at a high rate of speed and there were open alcohol containers inside the Dodge.
Troopers George Hornsby and Anthony Robinson were able to stop the Charger at the 37 mile marker (Westville) where they were able to identify the driver as Octavio Martinez, 20 of South Bend. The troopers also located several alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle.
There were three other occupants inside the Charger who had not been drinking nor were they participants in the bottle throwing. They were allowed to continue on their trip.
Martinez was charged with OWI Endangerment (BAC .10%), Open Container, Driving While Suspended and Speed. He was driving on a learner’s permit.
Martinez was taken to Porter County Jail.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
