I-65 Crash in Johnson County Claims One Life

Franklin, IN- A two vehicle crash on I-65 in Johnson County has claimed the life of a Columbus, Indiana female.

At 7:00 p.m. this evening Indiana State Troopers were dispatched to I-65 NB at the 86 mm on the report of a two vehicle personal injury crash involving a semi-tractor trailer and a car.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements revealed that Aldo Perez, 51, of Loxahatchee, FL., was operating a semi-tractor trailer and box trailer NB on I-65 at the 86 mm in the right lane. A female, from Columbus, Indiana was NB in a 1994 BMW and ran into the rear of the box trailer. No evidence of deceleration or skid marks was left at the scene by the BMW.

The driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Johnson County Coroner’s office. A small K-9 in the BMW survived the crash and was released to an acquaintance of the female.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that both excessive speed and driver inattention were contributing factors in the crash.

The identity of the deceased female will be released when family members have been notified.

Perez was not injured and the semi-tractor trailer was driven from the scene.

All lanes of I-65 NB were closed for 2.5 hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared. NB traffic was diverted at the 80 mm. (Edinburgh exit)
