Two Vehicle Crash Injures One- Live Power Lines Involved
Clay County—This evening at 6:23, Indiana State Police and Clay County emergency agencies responded to a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 800 North and CR 100 East.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Chrysler Sebring, driven by 17-year-old Keirsten L. Mikesell of Brazil, IN., was northbound on CR 100 East and failed to yield the right of way to a northbound on CR 100 East 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 48-year-old Beth A. Beasley of Brazil, IN. The Mikesell vehicle then struck the Beasley vehicle on the driver's side forcing Beasley’s car into a nearby utility pole. After colliding with the pole, live power lines descended on the Beasley vehicle keeping rescuers from providing aid until the power was shut off by Duke Energy workers. Beasley was then extricated by members of the Posey and Jackson Township Fire/Rescue Departments. An IU Health air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but did not transport due to the less serious injuries.
Beth Beasley was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening arm injuries.
Keirsten Mikesell was not injured, but was cited for failure to yield right of way.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Ian Portteus. Assisting were Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Posey and Jackson Township Fire/Rescue Departments, Duke Energy, and Trans Care EMS.
Red vehicle is Beasley and gold vehicle is Mikesell.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
