Join Los Altos Police for 31st Annual National Night Out Crime and Drug Prevention Event August 5

On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. neighbors throughout Los Altos are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 31st Annual National Night Out anti-crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Los Altos Police Department, involves over 9,700 communities from all 50 States, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. Last year a million people participated in “National Night Out.” National Night Out is supported in part by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and community-police relations
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

It is an extraordinary way to build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships. On August 6th, we are inviting neighborhoods nationwide to join forces with us to “Give Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party!”

Register Your Neighborhood Event by July 8

The Los Altos Police Department encourages citizens to join this fun event. Neighbors are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend an evening out with their neighbors and the men and women of the Los Altos Police Department.

Be sure to register your neighborhood event with the Police department so we can be sure to stop by. Download the registration application and be sure to return it by Tuesday, July 8.

Creativity and individuality are what makes the National Night Out fun for your family and all your neighbors! There are many things you and your neighbors can do to celebrate National Night Out. Here are some great ideas that we have seen different neighborhoods do in the past:

  • Ice Cream Social
  • Potluck
  • Theme Party
  • Children’s activities
  • BBQ
  • Pie Contest
