Blue Ridge BBQ Info from Tryon Town Hall

Good morning from Tryon Town Hall.

As you all know, this is the week of the 21st annual Blue Ridge BBQ and Music Festival at Harmon Field. As such we wanted to make you aware of several things.

- DOT has been doing side mowing in and around the Harmon Field area. You can expect some traffic delays during the week.

- Harmon Field will be “closed” beginning Tuesday. This is not only to allow the festival to begin to set up their equipment but also as a safety measure to those who use Harmon Field. We want to eliminate the possibility of people tripping over equipment and the like.

- The festival is Friday and Saturday from 10AM until 11PM each evening. Parking for the event is on Howard Gap Road just off Highway 108. Shuttles will bring patrons from the parking area to the main gate. You can also walk down adjacent to the tomato field beside Canebrake Road and enter at Hog Heaven (cooking team area).

- Expect heavy traffic in the area both days. NC Highway Patrol will be handling traffic duties along Highway 108.

- There will be FREE ADMISSION on Friday between 10AM and 2PM. All other times will be $8/adult with children 12 and under admitted free.

- Backpacks and coolers are prohibited on festival grounds.

- Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday night.

- WSPA’s helicopter will be flying the area and landing at Harmon Field on Friday.

- ReMax will have a hot air balloon as well.

- There will be a car show and motorcycle run on Saturday

- You must convert your dollars to BBQ Bucks. You can purchase food ONLY with BBQ bucks. Your cash and credit cards are good only at the gate, the merchandise tent and the craft fair. There is an ATM machine on the grounds for your convenience. There are several BBQ Bucks booths located on the grounds.

- Tryon PD, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Tryon Fire Department, Polk County EMS and Polk County Rescue Squad will be on the grounds each day to ensure safety. The Rescue Squad will be near the craft area. All other public safety agencies will operate out of their command post at the old middle school. You’ll also see them on the grounds on golf carts and walking as well.

- More information is available by visiting www.blueridgebbqfestival.com The Tryon Daily Bulletin’s special BBQ issue will be published late week as well.

We hope you all have a safe and fun time at this year’s BBQ festival!
