6/8/14 press release: Agency Assist

On June 8th, 2014, at approximately 1150 hours, Burlington Police received multiple 911 Calls reporting an explosion with a man on fire, at the Laundromat building, located at Little Eagle Bay in the New North End of Burlington, Vermont.

Investigation revealed that the male victim was working for a flooring company and was pouring lacquer thinner on a varnished floor. The victim reported that the fumes built up and a clothes dryer was operating in the room at the time. The victim stated he caught on fire, causing the floor to flame and ran outside, at which time there was an explosion in the building. The victim reported that he was not smoking at the time.

Burlington Fire Department contained the fire from the explosion and Burlington Rescue transported the victim to Fletcher Allen ER. The victim sustained moderate burn injuries to the arms and upper body and is in stable condition at the hospital.

The Burlington Fire Department will be investigating the cause of this fire.
