UPDATE: Morning Glory Lane shooting - second subject dies - Press Release

UPDATE

11469 Morning Glory Shooting

** Second subject, Mark Grundei, dies from injuries **

On May 26, 2014 at approximately 5:09 pm the Huntley Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at 11469 Morning Glory Lane, a single family unattached residence. The caller, later identified as Alyce Grundei (age 81), stated she had been shot.

Upon arrival, Officers met with the Alyce at the front of the residence. Alyce was noted to be bleeding from the head and had an eye injury, she stated that her sons were inside and had been shot. Officers entered the home and found the two sons, Mark R. Grundei (age 50) and Robert A Grundei (age 48) with severe injuries suspected to be gunshot wounds. Emergency first aid was applied as the Huntley Fire Protection District responded and cared for the injured parties. All three were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the two sons had gotten into an argument and a firearm was then obtained. Robert Grundei suffered a gunshot wound to his back, Alyce Grundei suffered a grazing gunshot wound to the head and Mark Grundei suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Robert Grundei (formerly of Coral Springs, Florida) had since succumbed to his injuries on May 26 and died at Advocate Sherman Hospital.

Alyce Grundei was treated and released on May 26.

Mark Grundei had severe head injuries and died June 4 at a Hospice Care Center in Woodstock. An autopsy with the McHenry County Coroner’s Office is scheduled for June 5, 2014.

No other parties are believed to be involved in this incident. A five shot revolver was recovered at the scene and the investigation is continuing pending final results from Robert’s autopsy from the Kane County Coroner’s Office, Mark’s autopsy from the McHenry County Coroner’s Office and submitted evidence from the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory.
