FOLLOW UP: Sand Dunes assault suspect found; no charges filed at request of victim. CORRECTION see msg

Correction to last message: GCSO will NOT be ID'ing suspect because no charges will be filed.

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. (02JUN2014) -- FOLLOW UP – The person suspected of shoving a Tacoma man off of a boat during the Memorial Day weekend at the Moses Lake Sand Dunes has been found thanks to witnesses who came forward with information.

The victim, Corey Barker of Tacoma, suffered a broken neck and bleeding within his skull after he was allegedly pushed from a boat head first into shallow water. With little information to go on, GCSO asked the public for help finding the man who allegedly pushed Barker.

Even though the suspect description was unclear, people recalled the incident and were able to identify the suspect. Tips came in to the Sheriff’s Office and the man who allegedly shoved Barker was identified and interviewed by investigators.

Ultimately, Barker declined to press charges against the man, and the case is closed. Since the suspect will not face criminal charges, we will not be disclosing his identity.

“We knew we had an obscure description of the suspect – a description that would fit many people who were at the dunes that day,” said Sheriff Tom Jones. “And, we also knew people witnessed the incident and had information. Thankfully, those people stepped forward and gave us the tips we needed.”
