Public Notification - Sheriff’s Office Applies for Federal Grant
EPHRATA, Wash. (02JUNE2014) – Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones today announced his office has received notice of a Federal grant available through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Although the $11,474 of grant funds can be used in a number of different categories, the Sheriff’s Office has decided to pursue the purchase of the following equipment:
· Five (5) Mobile Data Terminals (MDT’s) to be utilized by the Motor Traffic Unit (MTU).
These units will replace the aging and obsolete units as assigned to the MTU. Currently the MTU deputies are each assigned two computers. One is used in the patrol vehicles and the other to their assigned motorcycle. The new MDT’s have the functionality that allows them to be moved from vehicle to motorcycle and vice versa eliminating the need for the extra equipment.
These units will allow the deputies in the field to electronically document their contacts as well as provide the opportunity to investigate, diagram and document collision and crime scenes.
As part of the requirements in applying for this grant, the Sheriff’s Office is required to notify the public of their intent to apply for the grant and allow the opportunity for the public to comment. The public is encouraged to contact Undersheriff Dave Ponozzo via email at [email protected] or by phone at (509) 754-2011 ext. 468 voice mail box 21 prior to June 27th, 2014 with any questions or concerns they may have.
Additional opportunities to comment on this grant will be provided for as the Sheriff’s Office presents their proposed budget for FY2015 in the fall of 2014.
