One Person Dead in Crash on I-465
Indianapolis, IN- The driver involved in a single vehicle crash on I-465 this afternoon was fatally injured when his vehicle struck a bridge support.
This afternoon, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Indiana State Troopers were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on I-465 NB at the ramp to I-74 EB. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Greenwood man was NB on I-465 approaching the ramp to I-74 EB. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicates the driver failed to negotiate the curve and drove off I-465, across a grassy median and struck a bridge support head on. No brakes or evasive maneuvers were made by the driver. The driver was the only person in the vehicle.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators are uncertain why the driver failed to negotiate the curve, apply brakes, or take evasive measures prior to the crash.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities are attempting to make notification to the victim’s family. The victim will be identified when notification has been made.
