Man receives spinal cord, brain injury in Sand Dunes assault; sheriff seeks info

MOSES LAKE, Wash. (27MAY2014) – Grant County deputies are asking the public for help finding a man who assaulted and seriously injured another man Saturday at the Moses Lake Sand Dunes.

Deputies were called to the Crescent Bar area about 1:20 p.m. May 25. They found 37-year-old Corey T. Barker of Tacoma complaining of no sensation on the left side of his body. Barker was transported by ambulance to a Wenatchee and then by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was undergoing surgery today for a broken neck and bleeding on the brain.

According to deputies’ reports, Barker and friends were on a boat at the Moses Lake Sand Dunes on Saturday. They arrived and tied to other boats along the shore. Barker and friends were partying, hopping from boat-to-boat while drinking alcohol. At one point, Barker was dancing with a woman on a boat. The woman’s boyfriend allegedly shoved Barker from behind, causing Barker to fall off the boat head-first into about one foot of water, striking his head. Barker and friends returned to Crescent Bar not realizing how serious Barker’s injuries were.

Deputies are looking for a white male in his 20s, about six-foot-tall with a muscular build, wearing shorts and a baseball cap. He is described as having a large tattoo on his back and tattoos on his arms.

The woman with whom the victim was dancing is described as white, in her late-20s with bleached blonde hair and wearing a black bikini.

The boat on which the assault occurred is described as a white mid-90s ski boat with squared windows and a chrome rack with speakers. It is not known what association the suspect has to the boat.

Anyone with information about this incident or the suspect’s identity is asked to call the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at 509-762-1160 and reference case number 14GS05845. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
