Monroe man dies in Banks Lake plane crash
Near GRAND COULEE, Wash. (25MAY2014) – Investigators will continue their work today at the Banks Lake site of a small plane crash which killed a Monroe, Wash. man Saturday.
Kenneth A. Berger, 60, the lone occupant, was piloting a Searay amphibious plane near Steamboat Rock State Park about 5 p.m. While attempting to take off, witnesses said the plane went nose-down into the water and sank. Citizens in nearby boats dove into the lake and released Berger’s seatbelt, brought him to the surface and then to a waiting ambulance on shore. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Berger’s body is in the care of Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison, whose staff will perform an autopsy.
The FAA is on scene today to investigate.
