Ephrata man injured after collision with train near Warden.
WARDEN, Wash. (23MAY2014) – One Ephrata man was injured after his 2006 Chevrolet pickup pulling a flatbed trailer collided with a Columbia Basin Railroad train at approximately 4:40pm yesterday near Warden. Ed Lamens, age 62, sustained a broken left hand, broken ankle, and a head laceration in the accident. He was flown to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland by MedStar.
Ed Lamens was westbound on Road 3 SE, just east of Road S SE, Northwest of Warden, when the Columbia Basin Railroad train coming from Moses Lake was heading southbound towards Warden. The train, pulling 14 cars, had already cleared the intersection when the truck collided with the second engine.
The train engineer, conductor, and brakeman were not injured in the collision. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Motor Traffic Unit is investigating the collision.
Lamens was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. The Chevrolet pickup was a total loss.
