Full Notification

On 05/22/2014 at approximately 8:30pm Officers responded to The Sub at 295 Higuera for a report of an assault in progress involving one of their employees. When Officers arrived on-scene they found the victim with significant facial injuries from being kicked by the suspect. A suspect description was obtained and Officers began searching the area. A male matching the suspect description was located hiding in bushes near Higuera and Marsh. When Officers attempted to contact him he fled on foot down into the creek.
After a prolonged foot pursuit and coordinated search of the area that included numerous San Luis Obispo Police Officers along with assistance from a San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s K-9 unit and Cal Poly University Police, the suspect was eventually apprehended in a field adjacent to the U.S. Post Office on Dalidio Road. The suspect was positively identified by a witness to the assault.
S/Eric ABRIL was transported to San Luis Obispo County Jail where he was booked on charges of Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Kick to the head), Assault Causing Great Bodily Injury, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Switchblade Knife, and an outstanding Felony Warrant out of Santa Clara County. S/ABRIL is being held without bail.
Note: The knife was not used in the assault.
