Four Injured in Porter Township Crash

Cass County Sheriff Joseph M Underwood JR is reporting that on 05-20-2014 at approximately 14:25, his Office responded to a injury crash near the intersection of M 40 and U.S. 12 in Porter Township.

52-year-old Cicero Indiana resident Wayne Hammons was driving eastbound on U.S. 12. Wayne stopped his vehicle in the straight only lane with the intention to change lanes. A second vehicle, driven by 18 year old White Pigeon resident Laurana Cook, rear-ended Hammons’ vehicle while he was stopped.

Cook’s passengers were 22-year-old Candace Fitt of Union and 24-year-old Melanie Nering of Allegan.

Medics transported all the parties involved in this accident to the Three Rivers Hospital for treatment. All parties wore their seatbelts and alcohol is not a factor. This incident remains under investigation.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Michigan State Police, Porter Ambulance, and the Newberg Township Fire Department.
