Fire Fatality Update
(Etowah County, Alabama) The death of a 59 year-old man in a mobile home fire is currently under investigation, however, foul play is not suspected, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
The incident occurred Sunday morning, May 18, in the Coates Bend community, at approximately 9:00 a.m., at 103 Speedy Lane, Gadsden.
The victim, William Simmons, has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Another individual who was in the mobile home at the time of the fire escaped without injuries. A neighbor called 9-1-1 to report the fire. When firefighters arrived on scene the trailer was completely engulfed.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Etowah County Arson Task Force are working to conclude how the fire started. Arson has been ruled out.
