Two Injured in Semi-Tractor Crash

Two Injured in Semi-Tractor Crash

Indianapolis, IN- Two people in a semi-tractor trailer were transported to Methodist Hospital after being involved in a personal crash on I-465 SB at the 39.9 mm near East 56th Street and Shadeland Avenue.

At 12:47 p.m., Indiana State Police troopers were dispatched to the report of a semi-tractor trailer personal injury crash on I-465 SB at the 39.9 mm. The semi-tractor was reported to be on fire.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, William J. Hosier, 52, of Wabash, Indiana was SB on I-465 and dropped something inside the cab of the semi. When Hosier leaned over to pick up the object he sneezed, lost control of the vehicle, and struck the concrete barrier wall that divides Shadeland Avenue/East 56th Street ramp and I-465, with the front of the semi.

Diesel fuel leaking from the truck as a result of the crash is suspected as being the cause of the fire. The trailer was loaded with non hazardous auto parts. The fire completed destroyed the tractor; however Indianapolis Fire Department personnel were able to keep the trailer damage to a minimum.

Both the driver, and his passenger, Jill Hosier, were able to escape the wreckage before the semi burned. They were transported to Methodist Hospital for complaint of pain.

All lanes of SB I-465 were closed for approximately 25 minutes until the fire was contained. The left two lanes were then opened for travel.
