Attempted Murder Arrest

(Etowah County, Alabama) An argument between two relatives left one with a slit throat and the other charged with attempted murder, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Lucky Jim Gilbreath, 42, of Altoona, was arrested and is charged with one count of attempt to commit murder, a Class A felony,” states Captain Shane Hartley.

The incident occurred Monday, May 12, at a residence on Durham Road near the Howelton community. The victim and alleged suspect were in a disagreement over the fact that Gilbreath’s children had been removed from his custody by the Department of Human Resources.

When deputies arrived on scene they found a white male, sitting outside in a chair covered in blood with a bandage around his neck. He told deputies his throat had been cut with a knife. The victim was taken to Marshall Medical Center where he received 78 stitches in his neck.

Investigators located the alleged suspect at a nearby residence.

Gilbreath is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on $100,000 cash bond.
