So far, the fire has burned around 850 acres since it broke out just before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13th in the 4S Ranch area. The flames have spread to the west, prompting evacuations in Fairbanks Ranch and Eastern Rancho Santa Fe. The fire is five percent contained.

Sheriff Gore says 70 deputies are currently assisting with evacuation and other emergency duties related to the Bernardo Fire. Another 60 deputies will work through the night. Two Sheriff's firefighting helicopters are helping put out the flames. Two additional Sheriff's helicopters are keeping an eye on the fire from above.
