Hit and Run crash sends 3 to Hospital

Sheriff Joseph M Underwood Jr reports that his officers investigated a hit and run crash that occurred on M60 Hwy near White Temple Rd in Penn Twp., Cass County Michigan on 5/4/14 at 2:55 pm. A Jeep driven by Delbert Raeder, 49 Yrs old from Elkhart In., was going East on M60 Hwy. A newer pickup truck that was darker in color came up behind the Jeep at a high rate of speed and rear ended the Jeep. The Jeep was pushed off the road to the left into the front deck of a house and then into a tree. Delbert Raeder sustained injuries in the crash and had to be transported by the Newberg Twp Ambulance service to Three Rivers ER where he is listed in stable condition. The front seat passenger Carla Moore, 49 Yrs old from Elkhart In., had to be extricated out of the vehicle and sustained injuries in the crash and was also transported to Three Rivers ER by the Newburg Ambulance Service where she is listed in stable condition. The back seat passenger David Raeder, 54 Yrs old from Elkhart In., sustained injuries from the crash and was air lifted by Med Flight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he is listed in critical condition. The newer dark colored pick up truck did sustain some front end damage and was leaking fluids. This vehicle fled the scene and has yet to be located. Safety belts were not used by the passengers and alcohol believes to be a factor. The Cass County Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the Penn Twp Fire Dept., Life Care Ambulance, Newberg Twp. Ambulance, and Med Flight. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
