UPDATE: Suspicious Package Incident at front of Petaluma Police Department resolved. Public access area at PPD currently open. 
The Petaluma Police Department requested the assistance of our Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office explosive specialists to determine if a suspicious package located at the front of the Petaluma Police Department posed any potential threat. The Sheriff’s Office personnel have arrived and conducted an inspection of the suspicious item. That inspection confirmed that the package did not contain any dangerous contents.
The nature of the package is such that police personnel do believe it was left with the intent to cause fear of an explosive device and this remains an ongoing criminal investigation.
All public access to the Petaluma Police Department has been restored.
Any person with any information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Petaluma Police Department as previously requested.
