Major Vandalism at Local Fitness Club

APD Case 14-16892

On April 27, 2014, just before 6 AM, Anchorage Police responded to a call of a major vandalism at the Body Renew Fitness Club located at 202 E. Northern Lights. Upon arrival, police found computers, phones, the fax machine and other office equipment thrown to the ground and completely destroyed. The vandal had also torn a water fountain off the wall causing extensive water damage. In total, damages are estimated to be approximately $20,000-$30,000.

Officers searched the building and discovered 29-year Deepak Chaudhary hiding in the gym between two exercise mats, pretending to be asleep. Chaudhary had somehow obtained an electronic key card, issued to members only, which he used to gain access into the building. While destroying the office equipment, he inadvertently disabled the electronic door mechanism, locking himself inside the building. Apparently, Chaudhary failed to notice the emergency exit and remained trapped inside until police arrived.

Deepak Chaudhary was taken into custody and charged with Burglary 1 and felony Criminal Mischief 2. He was taken to the Anchorage Jail with bail set at $1000 cash, $2000 cash/corporate plus third party custodian.
