OSBI Agent Arrests Creek Co. Commissioner for Embezzlement

Wednesday, an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent arrested a Creek County Commissioner for embezzlement. District 2 Commissioner Rick Don Stewart (d.o.b. 11/2/1958) used county equipment to upgrade a road near his property and to maintain his property.

Stewart went before the Creek County Commissioners last year to request money be spent to upgrade a road near the home of a special needs child so the school bus could pick up and drop off the child at his driveway. Commissioners okayed the project as did the district attorney’s office. Never did Stewart inform anyone that this property was near his. When the project was completed in January 2014, the overwhelming majority of the work done was on a road ¼ mile west of his property rather than the road requested for the special needs child.

One of Stewart’s neighbors provided photographic evidence of Stewart using county equipment to mow his property and haul brush from his property. Stewart also told a Creek County road foreman that he did not care if was re-elected. The only reason he ran for county commissioner was to fix his road.

Stewart was arrested Wednesday afternoon during a traffic stop near highway 117 and Wickham Road in Sapulpa on a warrant for six counts of embezzlement. Bond was set at $50,000. He bonded out later in the day.
